Feb. 4th, 2005 11:36 amEDIT - I've scrapped this version and have redone this chapter. see more recent entries.
I managed to get the first chapter & I just don't know. I'm not sure how the charicaterization is (especially Anderson) or what I have of a plot. It's not going to be smut (can't do that to Anderson) but more erotic so Anderson doesn't technically break his vows. There may be misspellings & grammar mistakes. It will probably end up being 3-4 chapters with Alucard popping in at an inoppurtune moment. God, how I love to torment him.
Integral was furious at the Vatican. They had organized the meeting and failed to provide adequate security. Now the building they were in Rome was being attacked by vampires they had failed to destroy during the war. She was also mad at her own actions. Alucard had been so obsessed with shagging her since the war ended that she had left him back in London and brought Seras Victoria instead. Now she had lost Seras in the midst of chaos from the explosions. Integral tried to find her way out of the building but it was next to impossible. The explosion had cut off the electricity. Integral tried to contact Alucard but it seemed he was locking her out – mad that she had excluded him from the meeting. Damn possessive vampire. He’s not here when I really need him.
She had been looking forward to the meeting. It was the first meeting of its kind. Integral had worked with the Queen in organizing the event. She was to meet with vampire hunting forces from all of the countries in Europe and share strategies and discover what never threats were lying just around the corner. It was just so like Millenium to have the balls to attack a meeting of vampire hunters.
Integral turned a corner and held her breath. There were about 25 vampires just down the hall. Damn. She froze for a moment trying to determine what her best course of action was. Integral had just left an area that had been filled with ghouls. Better ghouls then vampires – at least I have a gun. Integral took a few step in the pitch black hall when she was grabbed from behind and pulled into darkness. Integral did not scream – she would not give he
r attacker of knowing she felt fear. The Hellsing leader struggled and tried to pull her sword out of its sheath. The attacker put his hand over her mouth and held her still against his body. Finally, he released her and lit a match – Integral nearly started screaming at the site of him. It was Iscariott’s lapdog – Alexander Anderson.
“What in the bloody hell is the meaning of this Father Anderson!” Integral demanded, nearly shouting at him.
“Sir Hellsing – I mean you know harm. Surely you know that by now. This building is overcome by vampires but they are far from ordinary. My silver swords are not working on the beasts. Hienkel and Yumi have tried shooting them with silver bullets but they are not affecting the beasts. I came here a few hours ago to see if I could find anything that will kill them. We’ll either die or get turned into demons if try to fight them now. Speaking of demons, where is yours??”
“Who do you mean, Father - Alucard or Seras?”
“I saw the girl. She fought a group of vampires – gave me time to get away after I was injured. Ye will have to tell Draculina I said thank you.”
“I’ll be sure to mention it – if I get out of this situation alive. So you meant Alucard. He unfortunately is back in London. He wasn’t behaving so I left him home. I would have thought, Father - that the Vatican would have a secure building – one that couldn’t be overtaken by vampires.”
Father Anderson hung his head. He knew the Hellsing leader was right – but it had been out of his hands. “Aye, Sir Hellsing. I cannot argue with you on that. I tried to tell my superiors but alas they would hear none of it. After the fiasco that Maxwell caused, invading your country, killing innocent civilians, Section XIII was practically abolished. It was only through my testimony and that of Father Renaldo’s that it was saved. We have practically no budget – hardly any personnel. I know it is no excuse. We should have declined the meeting.”
Integral was taken aback by the humble attitude of Anderson. It was so unlike him to admit they were wrong. She figured Alucard would come – he would either hear about it or sense the attack. Even if her servant was mad at her, he would never be unable to resist such a great battle. It was just a matter of waiting. She hoped Alucard didn’t wait too long. Integral Hellsing was hungry as hell and this whole nightmare started right before lunch.
Integral joined Father Anderson at the table, lighting her way with a match. “Do you mind, Father?” She asked, pulling out a thin cigar. Integral wouldn’t have cared if he had – her nerves were shot. Father Anderson nodded and smiled at Integra.
“I have me own way of soothing me nerves.” Father Anderson pulled out a bottle from his jacket. “I had gotten this for later but think it would be better to have some now.”
Integral blinked. Father Anderson drinking? “Are you sure it is a good idea to get drunk, Father – at a time like this?”
Anderson chuckled. “I kind of wish I could get drunk. This will only calm me nerves a little. Because of my special abilities, I metabolize alcohol too quickly for it to make me drunk. No, it only calms my nerves.”
“So what is it?”
Anderson smiled at Integral. “Ye can have some if ye want. It is just some vintage Irish Whiskey.”
Integral shuddered at the thought of drinking straight whiskey. “No thank you. I’ll stick to my cigars, Father.”
“Ah, are ye more of a wine drinker?” Integral nodded. “Well ye may be in luck. I saw a case of wine in here.”
“Wine? What kind of room is this, Father?” Integral lit a match and looked around the room. It appeared to be an all purpose store room. There appeared to be boxes of dry food. Of course nothing that she could eat now – just boxes of dry pasta and cans of tomatoes. Not a piece of bread anywhere or fresh fruit. She spotted the cases of wine, Anderson had mentioned.
“I think it is a storage room of sorts. I’ve never been in this part of the building, me-self.”
Integral’s flame went out so she lit another match. She was determined to find something to eat and drink. Her mouth was parched but she did not want to have wine. There has to be some water somewhere.
“What are ye looking for Sir Hellsing?”
“Water. There has to be some water in this room. How can you have cases of wine and not have any bottled water?”
“Ye will find no water. The emergency supplies are kept in another location.”
“Damn it! And there is no edible food. This is just great, Father. Any minute we could be attacked and I feel weak from this hunger. The one who could kill the vampires is in England because I was trying to teach him a lesson. This is just not my day.”
Father Anderson got up and got a glass from off the shelf. He pulled a bottle of wine from the case. “Ahh, I think you will enjoy this, Sir Hellsing – 1990 Sassicaia. I believe it is from Tuscany.”
Integral started to refuse but changed her mind. She was thirsty, hungry, and getting entirely too irritable. A glass or two wouldn’t hurt and it would fill her up just a bit. “Oh all right, Father. I’ll have one glass. You wouldn’t have any food, yourself would you? I’m starved and the inconsiderate vampires would have to strike before lunch.”
Anderson grinned deviously. He had grabbed a few chocolate bars from the kitchen last night. Who would have known how badly he would need them? “I actually do have a little something.”
Integral drank her wine and glared at the Priest. “Well?”
“It is nothing really, Sir Hellsing. Just a few Hershey bars I picked up last night.” Anderson grinned at Integral. She would have to be nice to him if she wanted any of his candy.
Integral’s demeanor changed. She did not get artificially nice but it was clear that the Hellsing was trying harder. “Do you think I could – have one, Father Anderson. I’m just soo damn hungry. I shouldn’t have skipped breakfast.”
Father Anderson handed her the candy bar. “I’ll share with ye but now you owe me one, Sir Hellsing.”
“Sure Father, I owe you a candy bar that costs how much?”
“It is not what it cost in the store but what it costs now that matters.”
Integral grumbled as she tore open the wrapper. She could barely wait to get it in her mouth. Integral was so hungry that she almost felt a rush from the sugar entering her blood stream. As she finished the bar, Integral licked the chocolate off of her fingers. The Hellsing did not want to waste a drop of chocolate. Integral chuckled when she realized she was thinking like Alucard did with blood. “Thank you, Father.”
Integral and Alexander could hear the screams of unfortunate victims. It pained Integral to know that she was in the closet hiding out from the massacre. The Hellsing leader knew that if she went out there she would die. What good would that do? If I perish in this attack, Hellsing will be destroyed. They will have won and that cannot happen. Integral also knew that Seras was out there fighting them. Hellsing was doing all it possibly could at the moment. She decided she would relax and wait for Alucard. This nightmare would be over soon.
-------
Integral poured herself another glass of wine. She knew that drinking on an empty stomach was not the smartest thing but the whole situation was starting to get to her. Integral hated being stranded in this dreaded room with Anderson. At least the wine was relaxing her just a bit. Damn it Alucard, where the hell are you when I need you. Integral wasn’t 100% sure but she thought that she could hear Alucard laughing in her mind. No – it must be the wine.
“So, Sir Hellsing, how is that butler of yours? Has he recovered yet?” Alexander was trying his best to make small talk. He took another swig of his whiskey.
“No, I’m sorry to say he hasn’t. We have no idea how long it could take or even…”
“I’m sorry Sir Hellsing. I may not have agreed with him all the time but your butler was always a man of honor. It must be hard to see what they did to him.”
Integral nodded. God, I miss you Walter. Why did you have to get caught? Integral pushed the thoughts out of her mind. It hurt to much to think about Walter – she could almost feel tears forming. Integral could not cry in front of the priest. What would he think then?
She drank a few more glasses and was feeling almost too relaxed. Integral moved from where she was sitting to the opposite side of the table – next to Father Anderson. It was not that she felt particularly attracted to him. No – it was that at times like this, when they were both under attack, Integral desired to be close to someone who was on her side. In this battle both she and Anderson were on the same side – in a sense they were comrades. Father Anderson grinned as she sat down next to him. Although he never would admit it, the priest rather enjoyed Integral’s company. The thought occurred to Integral that she never had thanked him properly for saving her arse during the war.
“Father, I want to say something to you. Is it okay?” Integral looked into Alex’s eyes. She had never noticed what a beautiful shade of blue they were.
“Sir Hellsing – beings that were in such close quarters. We are practically comrades and all. Let us call each other by our first names.”
Integral smiled – she liked the idea but wasn’t exactly sure why. “Certainly, Alex, I just want to thank you. I may not have survived the war if it hadn’t been for you. And you went against your superior’s orders. You’ll never know how much I appreciate what you did.”
Anderson could feel his face getting warm – he must be blushing. The priest was suddenly thankful for the darkness. Alex took Integral’s hand in his own. He was surprised that such a strong and powerful woman could have such delicate hands. “Integral, I only did what was right. I could not have lived with myself if I let those monsters harm you. You were but an innocent woman. Although we have different beliefs and see the world differently, it would be nice if our organizations didn’t battle each other. I can see your heart Integral and know that you are an honorable woman. I do not wish to battle such an just heart.”
Integral was now very sorry she had drank so much. She tried to deny it to herself but her body was reacting to the priest’s touch. Integral felt a wave of pleasure course through her body as she looked into Anderson’s deep blue eyes. Ridiculous - I could not feel anything for a member of Iscariott. Still – what was that feeling? Almost like butterflies in her stomach - not entirely unpleasant. Integral wondered if he felt it too. Perhaps it was the alcohol but there was a part of Integral Hellsing that just didn’t care.
