Woa. I really haven't once since Otakon? I am so lame. I've been meaning to but guess I really have been lazy   I really did intend on trying to update once a week. Ehh. No more excuses. They're boring. Well, I have been writing finished another chapter of my Blood+ fic that no one is reading. I really wish the Blood+ fandom was bigger. Damn, I want to join an LJ-RP like POLY but I'm afraid I won't keep it up :(

This weekend I had a half-ass good excuse. That "time-of-the-month" hit me on Friday with God-awful cramps. I swear if it it wouldn't mess up my hormones, I'd have my uterus burned out. I have thought about it many times. I hate how painful my periods have become. I feel so incapacitated and don't feel like doing anything during the first couple of days. The good news is it should all be over for my 2nd mini-vacation that I'm taking on Thursday - my birthday!

Yeah, I decided to go on a short vacation starting on Aug 16th. I'm taking my 2 kids to Washington D.C. for 2 days. So many of the museums are free and it seems like such a waste that I never go. We're going to stay at the Metro Center Marriott I think.  It took me awhile to settle on that hotel. And I still might change my mind. I never realized how much you had to worry about the hotel being in a safe "neighborhood. And the parking. I figured it'd be like Baltimore or Philly where the touristy areas are safe-ish. But from all the hotel reviews I've read, that's not the case in DC. This one seems pretty safe (I hope) and there is a metro station really close. And it seems to have enough parking for the hotel. How can some hotels *coughs* Sheraton *coughs* not have enough parking for their guests. At least 1 spot per room. Does any one have any recommendations for hotels in Washington DC that are reasonably close to the National Mall & a metro stop?Makes me think twice about going to Katsucon. I kind of wanted to go but the hotel reservations in Washington seem so troublesome.

I'm kind of very excited about going because my favorite baseball player who is like one of the hottest men ever, Cole Hamels, is pitching at Phillie/Nationals game we're going to see while we're there. And the game happens to be on my birthday.  Best. Birthday. Present.Ever. Well not really, but I've been wanting to see him pitch since last year but he always happens not be pitching at the Phillies games me & my son go to. For those who aren't familiar with baseball... they announce the pitchers a few days in advance of the games. Last year I could make the reservations a few days before we went but this year the Phillies games have been sold out more often than not. Anyway I nearly squeed when I found out he was pitching for the game we plan on going to. Guess I'm becoming a Cole Hamels fangirl. But he is really hot.

I never did make a post regarding all the crazy LJ stuff. I don't intend to leave and I'll probably never get banned because I don't write much underage fanfic but I guess I would consider leaving if enough on my FL left. I don't see that happening but it does make me sad to see how bad LJ is treating so many of the users that made it popular. And LJ sometimes seems to be getting more stupid every day. Links can supposedly maybe get you banned!?! What. the. fuck. el-jay?

I finally saw the Harry Potter movie. Took my kids to the cheap movie theatre that is near the local uni last week. Was us and about 5 other
people. I really liked it and it made me want to read the book again. I started reading it when it was first out but then put it down and forgot about it.  I really liked the Luna Lovegood character.  I think I discovered my OTP for Harry Potter because they would just be so good together.

I've been watching a lot of fan sub anime & anime-on-demand. I finally finished Code Geass. Wonderful. Amazing. Didn't think I would at first because it seemed like a mech series. So glad I took the chance to watch it. There wasn't one character that I didn't like. <33333
Also continued to watch D. Gray-Man. I can't say how much I highly reccomend that show. Well, at least the 1st 20 episodes. Allen is the main character and I love him.  I really love Lavi too. Red hair, an eye-patch, & a great personality. The way he teases Allen reminds me a bit of how Pip teases Seras. [personal profile] sir_hellsing have you seen/read this? It seems like something you might like with the Victorian setting, supernatural & religious undertones. And I have found sites for direct download too if anyone wants... I've heard there is filler in later episodes so I may have to stop and just read the manga but I'm enjoying so far. I'm up to episode 20 so far. Also been watching some dubbed anime. We have the Funimation channel and they started putting a few things on-demand. Watched some of Kodocha. OMFG. It is crack but good crack! It is about a 6th grader who also happens to be child actress in Japan and has a mom who is a novelist. I know, I know,  the description makes it sound BAD but it isn't. It really IS funny. It is kind of like Exel Saga for kids but more normal.  You really have to see it to believe it could work. [profile] j_luc_pitard - have your kids seen it? It is one of those shows that seems to be good for kids & adults. They do make fun of more serious topics (like suicide) but in a non-offensive light hearted way. Yes, it is possible. There are mentions of more adult things but they don't really discuss it in depth. Very kid friendly. But it is still hilarious to me. I thought of you & your kids while I was watching...

And as shocking as it may be... I'm watching a few non-anime things.

Started Yoshitune which is a J-drama about feudal Japan. It aired a few years ago on Japanese TV. It stars J-pop singers for many of the roles but so far the acting has been good. I'm a total feudal Japanese history geek so it's just the kind of thing I love. I'm also watching Meadowlands. It's a dark drama on Showtime about a dysfunctional family (aren't they the best kind?) who are living in a English "town" that is made up of entirely of people who are in the witness protection program. It is dark, twisted, and violent. No supernatural stuff but there's enough blood to make up for that.

Next post will be the next chapter of my Blood+ AU set in Germany occupied France (WWII). I want to get it posted to before the trip. I have it done but since I can't find a beta, I'm going to edit myself 100 times.

I started reading the D. Grayman manga and liked it but somehow put it down and lost track of it (the story of my life.)

I need to get my new computer before I can download anime, this one is too messed up. Not that I'm complaining; at least the new one is coming, probably this week.

I need to watch more of Blood +, too. I saw a couple of episodes and enjoyed them.

I hope you have fun in Washington D.C.! I've never been there, but it sounds like you have some great plans. Enjoy your hot pitcher. ;)

Your life and mine :) I actually started reading it and then stopped. You just reminded me that I have to pick it up again. But, then I also have to pick up Fruits Basket, Chrono Crusade, Spiral, and I really should stop now ;)

I'm glad you're getting a new PC. Actually I have a site I can recommend where you can watch the full episodes online (of a lot of anime). And you should watch Blood+ There's even an older guy (well not nearly as old as Walter but more like 30ish) and younger girl pairing you might like. They come later in the series but are adorable.

Thanks for the well wishes on the trip. I'm
kind of
very scared of driving in Washington with just me & the kids. We'll probably use the subway for everything because the thought of driving in DC makes me panic. Even the metro is scary but I
hope I'll be okay. The only other time I've gone as an adult was with my parents & Melissa during the cherry blossom festival. I didn't have to worry about driving because I went with them. I don't really have any plans besides going to the free museums & the baseball game. I think we might go to China Town too.

So nice to see you in LJ land!

I've missed you too. *hugs* I am feeling better though. It was weird - just last night I was having killer cramps and they were gone today. I'm not complaining though.

Thanks for the early birthday wish. AND the virtual balloons!!! That is so nice of you and seeing them cheered me up. :) You are such a great LJ friend.

I like Washington too and don't get there nearly enough.

Glad you're feeling better......

Hell yeah. It's freaking annoying, too.

Are you serious?

I'll look for Lavi! I know One Manga has D. Gray Man, so I'll check out the manga as well.

When's the game you're going to see? We're heading off to North Carolina to take the kids to Camp Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop, but we could go Saturday if you wanted to get together Friday night.

I know of a lot of hotels, but most are expensive. The Marriot Rennaisance on 9th St NW is a good choice. Walkable to the Mall and near the Chinatown metro. They have parking, but I have no idea how much and it's pricey. My work has put me up in the Henley Park Hotel on Massachusetts Ave, NW which is also nearby. Don't know the parking situation, but it must have some. There's a new Hampton Inn on Sixth NW, but I haven't been inside it and I don't see where people park except in the lot behind it. Don't let the DC hotel situation keep you from Katsucon since that's in Virginia. Most hotels outside the city are cheaper and have better parking.

We're going to the game Thursday night game so we could meet Friday night. I'm just a little nervous about getting around DC. Since the hotel is valet parking only, I'll probably be using the metro exclusively until I check out on Saturday. Parking is expensive but only a little more than I paid in Baltimore. But, if you want to try let me know. I'd love to see you again. I can give you my cell no. if you don't still have it from Baltimore. I think I still have yours on my phone.

I tried to get the Marriott you recommended but they're booked up at the special weekend rate that I'm getting. :( I'll probably stick with the Metro Marriott. Unless I try the Courtyard that is a little closer to the convention center.

Those 3 Marriots are all in the same area (more or less) and each one is fine. There is so much to do in DC that we could meet up and walk somewhere or go catch a movie (if my sweetie watches the kids). That part of DC has really improved in the last decade and you'll be near the newly renovated portrait and American art museums, the spy museum, National theater, Chinatown. Lots to do and a Friday is a good day to wander. I think I have your number in an e-mail, but feel free to call once you guys get in town. I work not too far from there, but leave at noon. (my work gives tours, but I think it's only interesting to news nerds)

Yeah, I noticed that there are a lot of Marriotts near each other. I would love to go on a tour of NPR but I'm afraid I'm the only news geek in my family. I will have both of my "kids" (Melissa who you met and my son who is 15)with me. I'll take your number with me though and try to give you a call on Friday. I made a list of all the museums and was surprised at how many I want to go to. I'll never have time to go to them all though. You really could stay there a week and not get to everything.
